Perlite’s most important natural property is the ability to expand when rapidly heated in Gulf Perlite factory between temperatures of 800°C – 950°C. The abrupt, controlled rise of temperature forms a white mass of minuscule glass bubbles. Perlite melts and expands in an extremely porous surface and increasing its volume (between four and twenty times), which in turn results in superior thermal & accoustic insulation properties, as well as an extreme lightness (weighs 55-120 kg/m3). The expanded material is a brilliant white, due to the reflectivity of the trapped bubbles. As a volcanic glass, Perlite is non-flammable and non-combustible. These characteristics, along with the fact that the energy consumed in the process is low will make perlite an ECO-CLEAN product.
